The Muscular System in animals allows them to move both internally and externally. Animals that are vertebrates have have three types of muscles: skeletal muscles, cardiac muscles, and smooth muscles.
Skeletal muscles are muscles that are attached to your bones with fibers known as tendons. They enable an organism to move voluntarily because they are controlled by the impulses sent from the nervous system. These muscles can also be called straight muscles because they have a certain pattern that look like stripes or straight lines.
Another type of muscle found in vertebrates are cardiac muscles. Cardiac Muscles are involuntary muscles that make up the heart. Its specific function is to pump blood from the heart to the rest of the body through coordinated contractions.
The last type of muscle found in vertebrates are smooth muscles. Smooth muscles are involuntary muscles that control the movement of internal organs. Just like the cardiac muscle, it also functions using coordinated or rhythmic contractions.
In invertebrates, Muscles provide heat for the body to stay warm and help with movement, posture, balance, and strength.
Muscular systems can range from complex intramuscular systems to systems that have only microscopic muscle fibers that range throughout the body.
